ASB Classic 2013

With huge appreciation to the Director's of Focus Health Physiotherapy, who kindly gave me time to continue my umpiring career, I was delighted to be selected to work at my 6th ASB Classic featuring several of the world's top Women players, with Radwanska being the number one seed (world number 4).
Qualifying went smoothly with the main draw commencing on Monday 31st December. I worked the night session that evening - strange being on a tennis court on New Years Eve - luckily we finished before midnight so I was able to watch the fireworks from the Sky Tower to welcome in the New Year.
The weather was great this year and the draw moved along swiftly until Wickmayer and Radwanska reached the Final which was played on Saturday 5th January.
Each umpire is assessed on each match throughout the week with the most consistent and accurate being selected to work on the Finals. I was very pleased to be selected to work on the Final again this year - my 6th.
The Singles and Doubles Finals were well contested, Radwanska winning the Singles and Black and Rodionova the Doubles, the event seemed a great success again.

Next week the Men's Heineken ATP event starts - lets hope the good weather continues.

Focus Health Physio,

Ross Simmons survives the cold and wet weather to complete the Tour of the Bay in a time of 2.31hrs. placing 5th in the chasing group just 40 seconds behind the winner Josh Page of Hastings.

Fingers and Toes and everything inbetweenwas cold or numb or both after the 105km ride, in the blustery cold and wet southerly conditions.

A leg rub down after the event by other staff members from Focus Health, Colin, Gay, Marie and Susan was greatly appreciated by Ross and other riders. Donations were made to the Blind Foundation in order to sponsor guide dog training.

Is Modern Medicine Killing You?

Focus Health Breathing specialist Jo Eames is about to feature in a new TV series airing on TV 1, starting on Wednesday the 3rd of October.

Each episode features two patients who have tried to get well using a number of prescription drugs, over-the-counter medication and even bizarre remedies that have no scientific merit at all.
When none of these remedies work, they turn to Dr Frances Pitsilis, an Auckland GP who uses integrated medication; natural and complementary medicines; and therapies which have a scientific basis to help treat the patient rather than mask their symptoms.
Right from the initial consultation between the patient and the doctor, the audience sees a diagnosis and watches each patient follow a path to discover what is wrong and what could be the answer to their sickness nightmare. They'll visit specialists, talk to health experts – giving the viewer unprecedented insight into holistic healing. Encapsulated within each case study are fascinating medical facts as well as easy to understand information on common health conditions, treatments and medicines.
Wednesday 8pm TV ONE.

Jo will feature in the second episode - Oct 10th 8pm
