Improving Sports Performance With Compression Garments

Compression improves blood circulation so speeding up the delivery of nutrients and removing by-products such as lactic acid from the working muscles. Lactic acid plays a part in the muscle soreness you may experience after activity so this soreness should be reduced by wearing the garments.

Exercise performance as well as recovery are therefore enhanced by this improvement in circulation.

Compression garment also offers support to the muscle during exercise to reduce the damage to each muscle fibre when it is overloaded (a normal phenomenon). With less damage the muscle will recover more quickly to enable continuation of training.

The other benefit of compression tights or tops is that they offer control of body temperature as the material draws perspiration away from the skin, allowing quicker evaporation. It means that your body becomes better at cooling when hot and quicker drying to maintain body heat when cold.

The garments can be worn during activity and it is recommended to wear them for 2 hours afterwards to assist recovery and reduce muscle soreness.
