Kate Park: From Family to Physiotherapy

While her father struggled with back pain, young Kate Park decided she would one day be able to help him. Having doubts about the way physiotherapy was practiced in her native Korea, she decided to study abroad. Kate completed her Bachelor of Health Science (Physio) followed by a Post Graduate Diploma (Musculoskeletal Therapy) at Auckland University of Technology (AUT). She then practiced in Auckland for ten years. While back in Korea on a cold Christmas break, a position became available at Focus Health. Kate jumped at the chance, remembering the bright sunlight of Hawke’s Bay, where she had studied English. "I studied English in Hawke’s Bay and was keen to return to enjoy this beautiful region".

Kate now enjoys looking after her patients, at the Te Mata Clinic in Havelock North. A former football player, Kate also enjoys weekend tramps, recently completing the Tongariro crossing with a group of friends. Kate grew up only an hour away from Pyongchang, where the Winter Olympics were held this year. She was not able to attend the event, but felt proud to watch her

9-year-old niece on TV as she performed in the opening ceremony. A natural skier herself, Kate has yet to try the New Zealand slopes, although she says that it will change this winter.
