Rob Francis

All about movement

BPhty (Otago), PGCertHsc (MSK)

Originally from Whangarei, Rob studied physiotherapy at Otago University, completing his final year at Canterbury.

After a year in private practice in Timaru, Rob spent six years on various wards at the public hospital in New Plymouth. Following that, a stint in Rotorua gave Rob plenty of opportunity to indulge two of his favourite pastimes - trail running and mountain biking. While there, he competed in the Tarawera Ultra-Trail (T50) and the Whaka50.

By his mid-teens, Rob already knew he wanted a career that combined science with his passion for sport. After initially considering engineering, he ultimately chose health care, seeing it as the perfect way to turn his interests into a professional skillset.

Rob’s focus is the musculoskeletal (MSK) system - the body's framework that includes the bones, muscles, joints and connective tissue, and which provides structure and enables movement.

At Royston, Rob’s time is divided between the clinic and the ward - where patients are seeking to regain movement as part of their recovery from orthopaedic surgery (most commonly knees and hips).
