Alex Gairdner: Sports Physio at Heart

A keen sportsman from a young age, Alex first got his Bachelor Degree in Sports Science and Exercise Physiology, then went on to graduate as a Physiotherapist at Coventry University in the UK. After several years of practice, he decided to leave the dark dampness of the London climate for a new life in New Zealand. "Hawke’s Bay seemed like the place for me and my Southern-French wife: beautiful weather and surf, great local teams and quite a few excellent wineries".

Having joined the Focus Health team ten years ago, he quickly made himself indispensable to the local sports community. Napier City Rovers is one of the teams who have benefited from his care - and still do.

Alex's Scottish family having strong ties to golfing, it was only natural that he would also get involved in that sport (another one at which he excels). Nowadays he offers specialised 'fit for golf' consultations in partnership with Napier Golf Club, where he is often seen playing a few rounds with his eight year old son who, true to his father's heritage, is also a keen rugbyman, tennis player, cricketer and gymnast. Alex is based at Focus Health's Onekawa clinic in Napier.
